Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. It's based on the theory that energy, flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians.

Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your Qi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow back into balance. Acupuncturists insert hair-thin needles into the skin at specific points around the body. It is virtually painless and harmless. Inserting the needles is thought to correct imbalances in the flow of energy in the body, called qi (pronounced "chee").

Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles.

    X-ray

An X-ray is a quick, painless test that produces images of the structures inside your body - particularly your bones.
X-ray beams pass through your body, and they are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density of the material they pass through. Dense materials, such as bone and metal, show up as white on X-rays. The air in your lungs shows up as black. Fat and muscle appear as shades of gray.
We use X-ray to determine problems on your bone.

    Moxa Treatment

Also called Moxibustion, traditional medical practice that originated in China and hence spread to Japan and other Asian countries. It is performed by burning small cones of dried leaves on certain designated points of the body, generally the same points as those used in acupuncture.

The term derives from the name of the wormwood plant most frequently used, Artemisia moxa, or (Japanese) A. mogusa. Acupuncture and moxibustion are sometimes used in combination for the treatment of disease and for pain management.

From ancient times, the Chinese believed that burning or heating certain points on the body increased circulation "full-bloodedness" and relieved pain.

    Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction.

In general, Western medical societies are skeptical of the health claims made by cupping therapy supporters. "Available scientific evidence does not support cupping as a cure for cancer or any other disease," states the American Cancer Society. "Reports of successful treatment with cupping are mainly anecdotal rather than from research studies." But a 2012 study published in the journal PLoS ONE suggests that cupping therapy may have more than a placebo effect. Australian and Chinese researchers reviewed 135 studies on cupping therapy published between 1992 and 2010. They concluded that cupping therapy may be effective when combined with other treatments like acupuncture or medications in treating various diseases and conditions

    Decoxtion Treatment

Herbal medicine also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine - refers to using a plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicine in the treating and preventing disease.

In many cases, scientists aren't sure what specific ingredient in a particular herb works to treat a condition or illness. Whole herbs contain many ingredients, and they may work together to produce a beneficial effect. Many factors determine how effective an herb will be. For example, the type of environment (climate, bugs, soil quality) in which a plant grew will affect it, as will how and when it was harvested and processed.

    Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. According to some acupuncturists, this practice augments the use of regular acupuncture, can restore health and well-being, and is particularly good for treating pain. There is evidence for some efficacy (when used in addition to antiemetics) in treating moderate post-chemotherapy vomiting, but not for acute vomiting or delayed nausea severity.

    Use by acupuncturists

According to Acupuncture Today, a trade journal for acupuncturists:

"Electro acupuncture is quite similar to traditional acupuncture in that the same points are stimulated during treatment. As with traditional acupuncture, needles are inserted on specific points along the body. The needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pulses using small clips. These devices are used to adjust the frequency and intensity of the impulse being delivered, depending on the condition being treated. Electro acupuncture uses two needles at time so that the impulses can pass from one needle to the other. Several pairs of needles can be stimulated simultaneously, usually for no more than 30 minutes at a time."

    That article adds:

"According to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, illness is caused when chi does not flow properly throughout the body. Acupuncturists determine whether chi is weak, stagnant or otherwise out of balance, which indicates the points to be stimulated. Electro acupuncture is considered to be especially useful for conditions in which there is an accumulation of chi, such as in chronic pain syndromes or in cases where the chi is difficult to stimulate."

Electro acupuncture is also variously termed EA, electro-acupuncture or incorporated under the generic term electrotherapy
